Autumn Zak (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Autumn Zak (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Forty Two (Townsend) X Secretariat (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, M, 6" bloom, 33" scape, 3 way branching, 18 buds.

Just like it's parent, Secretariat, the blooms change from day to day.  This is why I posted multiple pictures.  The very top picture is what Autumn Zak the daylily looks like on it's best day.  Other days it can be more muted in color, like the third picture down.  I feel that Autumn Zak the daylily is a step forward for blue eyed daylilies and I'm looking forward to seeing it's offspring in the future.  It is a lovely light purple bloom with a blue to blue violet eye zone, complemented by a corresponding edge to the petals, blending into a yellow green throat.  Easily fertile both ways.  I named this lovely daylily for my niece, Autumn Zak.  Autumn is a very smart young woman who is attending college at Ohio University.  She also is an excellent athlete running for her cross country and track teams in high school.  I feel this is a very special daylily named for my wonderful niece, Autumn. $250 SF SOLD OUT. Should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Psychic Change (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Psychic Change (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Bowtie Affair (Pierce) X The Fantastic Barbara Watts (Salter J.)) Tet., Sev, M, 5.5" bloom, 28" scape, 3 way branching, 15 buds.

The many faces of Psychic Change.  My best patterned intro to date. This one is special.  If you have ever seen my Lewis Daylily Garden videos, then you are familiar with this daylily. (I believe if you do a search for the one dated, 7-7-21, there is an excellent shot of this one in all it's glory.) I have planted all the seeds from crosses with this daylily because I think it may be a special parent of my future patterned offspring. Lovely peach colored blooms with a violet patterned eye zone and corresponding violet edge blending into a yellow green throat. Fertile both ways.  Pattern changes from day to day but is very consistent.  $300 SF. SOLD OUT.  Should be available on The Lily Auction in the years to come.

Batman Begins (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Batman Begins (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Ripples and Reflections (Morss) X Debra Jorgensen (Hansen)) Tet. Sev, M, 6.5" flower, 37" scape, 3 way branching, 17 buds.

Patterns with good plant habit are very scarce.  This intro takes patterns to new levels. Literally.  What a horse of a scape on Batman Begins. Lovely tall scapes just slap you across the face and demand your attention. Then the oddities of the pattern draw you in for further evaluation. The pattern is different every day but very consistent.  I posted the third photo down to show you it's usual pattern, but on special days it shows that bat signal pattern.  I love it.  There were a total of 7 sibs and this was the only one that had that stellar pattern.  Some teeth can be seen from time to time as well.  Lovely lavender blooms with the violet patterned eye zone, with a corresponding wire thin edge on the petals, blending into a yellow green throat. Fertile both ways, but pods seem to be better when established. $300 SF. SOLD OUT.  Should be available on The Lily Auction in the future.

Threat Level Midnight (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Threat Level Midnight (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Christine W. Hite X Tet. Fleishel's Black (Trimmer conversion)) Tet., Sev, M, 6" bloom, 37" scape, 3 way branching, 21 buds.

From just a couple seedlings saved, this lovely near black daylily endeared itself from the first time I saw it bloom.  Wow. It was special.  As each season passed the plant habit got better and better and I knew it had to be introduced.  I shot a video of it which is on You Tube which shows what lovely plant habit it has. You won't miss it with those 37 inch scapes up in your face.  Lovely black red color blending into a yellow triangular throat.  Pollen fertile, but will set pods when established.  Threat Level Midnight was named after one of my favorite episodes of The Office, a favorite TV show of mine. Threat Level Midnight's only flaw is that it is a slow morning opener, probably coming from the Tet. Fleishel's Black side of the cross.  $100 SF. SOLD OUT. Should be available on The Lily Auction in the future.

Don't Dream It's Over (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Don't Dream It's Over (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Don't Dream It's Over (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Sweet Isabella (Brooker) X My Friend Jacob (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" bloom, 30" scape, 2 to 3 way branching, 17 buds.

A couple years ago I got to see Don't Dream It's Over bloom in the backyard, took the second picture you see and then the deer at all of the buds.  (You can see there was no fencing in front of it and no protection) I relocated it to the front garden where there was fencing and got to see what it looked like in the first picture this year.  Rose red blooms with that lovely cream colored watermark blending into a yellow green throat.  Fertile both ways.  I set a lot of pods and crossed heavily with this intro knowing I was splitting up my clump. Named for a Crowded House song which I have always enjoyed. $150 SF. SOLD OUT. This will be available on The Lily Auction in the future.

Every Rose Has It's Thorn (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Every Rose Has It's Thorn (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022)

Every Rose Has It's Thorn (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) (Lewis seedling (The Orthodontist X Shabby Chic (Farmer)) X Vivacious Spirit (Pierce)) Tet., Sev, M, 5" bloom, 23" scape, 2 way branching, 12 buds.

COLOR!  It was Every Rose Has It's Thorn's color that separated it from other toothies in this color class. I've seen way too many mungy red toothies in my days, so it was nice to see one that had pleasant color for a change. The scape height can get taller, but I wanted to be fair and go with this year's measurement.  The parent on one side came from some seeds I bought on The Lily Auction from Rich Howard, so I will always say plant those seeds and line out those seedlings....because you never know. This toothy is a slow morning opener.  It does not get hung up, but takes a little time to open up.  It's worth the wait.  Holds it's color nicely during the day.  A lovely rose red bloom with a gold toothy edge on the petals, blending into a yellow green throat. Fertile both ways.  Named for a favorite song from the group Poison.  $125 SF.  SOLD OUT.  Watch for this one on The Lily Auction.

Tom's Diner (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2022) ( Dr. Celia Stump (Grace) X Gaudeamus (Moldovan)) Tet., Sev, MLa, 5.5" bloom, 27" scape, 2 way branching, 12 buds.

I was a little on the fence as to whether I should introduce this daylily or not.  The bloom is incredible. I love it, but the plant habit here was a little top branched.  HOWEVER, I had sent fans of this out to some friends to be guested and their reports back were that the plant habit was better over all.  So, I think it's safe to say Tom's Diner is a daylily that doesn't like to be moved.  It likes to settle into a spot and then it puts on a decent show.  Lovely shell pink blooms with that incredible gold toothy edge both on the petals and sepals, blending into a yellow green throat. Fertile both ways.  Named for a favorite song sung by Suzanne Vega and re mixed by a group called DNA.  $150 SF. SOLD OUT.  Should be available for resale from various re sellers.

I'm sorry a lot of these introductions are already sold out, but here in northern Ohio it is hard to increase them quickly, so with hopes that the general public can buy them sooner, I send them out to re sellers who have warmer climates.  I would suggest if you have interest in buying them, log on to the Lily Auction and do a search for daylilies under the name, "Lewis." Usually in the Fall and Winter those sellers list these daylilies for affordable prices.  Thank you for understanding.
