Paul K. Lewis Fall 2022 Introductions

Arrakis (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Arrakis (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Arrakis (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) (Richard J. Howard (Ridder) X Outback Stargazing (Bush)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" bloom, 25" scape, 2 way branching, 15 buds.

I have been breeding for stripes for some time now.  I can't even begin to tell you how many solid colored seedlings I have bloomed from using 2 striped parents.  Finally the curse has ended.  Ha ha. I actually bought these seeds on the Lily Auction.  So, however I got there that's all that counts, right?! Arrakis is a very cool looking lavender to light purple bloom with light lavender streaks and occasional stripes.  This streaking is consistent with each bloom.  It is pollen fertile, and pods are possible when established. Arrakis is the name of the planet in the movie Dune, which I really enjoyed. $175 SOLD OUT. Should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Blue Canyon (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Blue Canyon (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Blue Canyon (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Blue Canyon (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) (Cosmic Awakening (Pierce) X Yoga Man (Hansen)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" bloom, 30" scape, 2 to 3 way branching, 17 buds.

This intro was striking from it's maiden bloom. Lovely white blooms with blue eye zones blending into a yellow green throat.  The eye zone is outlined in a dark cranberry color. It graces the early mid season with these lovely tall scapes and I find the color of the eye zone varies from day to day.  Very easy to work with. Fertile both ways.  Named for a favorite restaurant of my wife and I located in Twinsburg, Ohio. $150 for a SF.  SOLD OUT.  Should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Depeche Mode (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Depeche Mode (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Depeche Mode (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) ( The Downward Spiral (Lewis) X Fulfill Your Destiny (Lewis)) Tet., Sev., M, 6" bloom, 25" scape, 2 way branching, 12 buds.

Lovely pink lavender blooms with a dark violet patterned eye zone with concentric circles blending into a yellow green throat. Fertile both ways.  This daylily was the star of the 2021 season.  It doesn't seem to like to be moved because the pattern wasn't as striking this year.  It is always patterned.  Another great one from The Downward Spiral.  Named for a favorite band of mine.  $150 for a SF. SOLD OUT. It should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Loki of Asgard (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Loki of Asgard (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Loki of Asgard (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) ( The Downward Spiral (Lewis) X Tet. Midnight Mirror (Trimmer/ Lambertson)) Tet., Sev., M, 6" bloom, 34" scape, 4 way branching, 29 buds.

Purple patterned flowers are really at their beginnings. My biggest goal besides having a more precise pattern is to have the base color an attractive purple color.  Most of the Tet. Midnight Mirror offspring have this mungy sort of purple color.  Loki of Asgard has been the best one of all that I've bred. Loki is also complemented by impeccable plant habit.  Purple blooms with a darker violet patterned eye zone blending into a yellow green throat. Easily fertile both ways.  Sets pods by just looking at it.  I have yet to see the offspring, but excited none the less.  Pattern is consistent and on every bloom.  $100 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  It should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Ninja Warrior (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Ninja Warrior (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Ninja Warrior (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Ninja Warrior (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) (Totem and Taboo (DeCaire) X The Downward Spiral (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, M, 5.5" bloom, 33" scape, 3 way branching, 17 buds.

Light purple blooms, lighter than Loki.  Ninja Warrior has nice plant habit and a very consistent pattern as well.  Ninja Warrior's pattern is more of a mother of pearl type of pattern, where as Loki has concentric rings.  It's just easier to compare the two since they are being introduced at the same time. Ninja Warrior is very easy to work with setting pods on every try.  Pollen is easy too.  My best introduction out of Di DeCaire's fine Totem and Taboo.  $100 for a SF. SOLD OUT.

Bridgerton (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Bridgerton (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Bridgerton (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Bridgerton (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) (Secretariat (Lewis) X All Things to All Men (Emmerich)) Tet., Sev, M, 5.5" bloom, 30" scape, 3 way branching, 17 buds.

Lovely light purple blooms with blue eye zones complemented by a blue and gold corresponding double edge. If you have ever seen Karol Emmerich's All Things to All Men, this base color of Bridgerton is slightly darker, but very similar to it's parent All Things. On most days this flower is breathtaking.  There is an occasional bad hair day where the bloom water spots or the sepals twist, but over all this is a really lovely daylily.  It is pollen easy and pod possible when established.  $150 for a SF. SOLD OUT. Should be available on the Lily Auction in the future.

Yellowcard (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022)

Yellowcard (Paul K. Lewis, Fall 2022) (Fun in Acapulco (Hanson) X Wowee Cherokee (Hensley)) Tet., Sev., M, Re. 6" bloom, 35" scape, 2 way branching, 15 buds.

Yellow hybridizing will always be one of my favorite areas to explore.  The very first daylily I fell in love with that set me on this journey was Hyperion, back when I lived at my Grandmother's house. Fast forward to present tense, I have really enjoyed growing Dale Hensley's Wowee Cherokee and have searched for great yellows to cross with it.. The best pairing some years ago was Fun in Acapulco from Curt Hanson.  The cross was a no brainer.  I lined out the seedlings and Yellowcard was the clear winner in the row.  To add to it's lovely color you have some subtle carving in the throat which can really pop on some days.  It's been a star in the garden this year and is currently reblooming. It is fertile both ways. Named for a favorite band of mine.  $150 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  This lovely daylily is currently available on The Lily Auction from Abundantdaylilies.
