Frank Sinatra (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

Frank Sinatra (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Forty Two (Townsend) X Secretariat (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, M, 6" bloom, 32" scape, 4 way branching, 20 buds.

From a row of 6 siblings, (3 of which are introductions) this was clearly the best seedling from this cross. It's all about color with this introduction. I don't believe I have seen an eye zone this shade of blue in any other introduction.  Perhaps some diploid introductions have come close, but few and far between with tetraploids.  Add in the wonderful plant habit and consistency with the color. This is a lavender bloom with powder blue eye zone, complemented by a corresponding blue and gold wire edge.  On rare days it will show a more silvery blue eye zone, which looks really cool.  Easily fertile both ways.  $300 for a SF.  SOLD OUT.  It should be available on the Lily auction in 2024.

Tony Bennett (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Forty Two (Townsend) X Secretariat (Lewis)) Tet., M, Sev, 6" bloom, 32" scape, 3 way branching, 15 buds.

Sib to Frank Sinatra. This was the other stand out seedling from this cross.  The eye zone is a little bluer than it's other sib, Autumn Zak. Great color combination and a real easy daylily to cross with. Light purple bloom with blue to violet eye zone with a thin blue corresponding edge. Fertile both ways.  Easy pod setter.  $200 for SF SOLD OUT.  It will be available on the Lily auction in 2024.

The Bourne Identity (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

The Bourne Identity (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Fulfill Your Destiny (Lewis) X The Downward Spiral (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, M, 5.5" bloom, 28" scape, 2 way branching, 12 buds.

In Steve Moldovan's final years of hybridizing he was just starting to explore purple patterned daylilies with his seedling S919-01, which later became his namesake daylily.  It got me to thinking there really wasn't many decent purple patterned daylilies to breed with....till now.  This one really blew me away when it bloomed for the first time along the driveway here.  Both of it's parents are lavender in color, so I was surprised to see this more of a pure purple color.  Like Steve always said about tetraploid breeding, you never know what you will get.  I was very happy to have this daylily as a tool to explore purple patterned breeding going forward.  I have a ton of seedlings from Bourne lined out and will hopefully see next year.  The Bourne Identity is a purple bloom with a violet and white patterned eye zone of concentric circles, blending into a yellow green throat.  Easily fertile both ways. $200 for SF, SOLD OUT.  Should be available on the Lily auction this coming year.

The Breakfast Club (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

The Breakfast Club (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Mysterious Zodiac (Petit) X The Downward Spiral (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" bloom, 29" scape, 3 way branching, 17 buds.

First blooms on this lovely patterned daylily always blow me away.  Wow, is the pattern cool. Another great one from The Downward Spiral.  There were 3 seedlings lined out from this cross and 2 of the 3 are introductions.  Goes to show you, you should always line out even a few from as many crosses as you can.  The pattern on The Breakfast Club fades with each subsequent bloom, but there is always a pattern.  With each generation the patterning gets better and better. The Breakfast Club is a lavender bloom with dark violet concentric circles, blending into a yellow green throat.  Fertile both ways. Named for a favorite movie of mine and I wanted to name the sib Sixteen Candles, but someone beat me to the punch.  Oh well. $150 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  This will be available on the Lily auction this coming year.

Bizarre Love Triangle (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

Bizarre Love Triangle (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Lewis seedling (Complex Complexities X Get Jiggy) X The Downward Spiral (Lewis)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" bloom, 27" scape, 3 way branching, 15 buds.

I love it when you can get a triangular shaped patterned eye zone with this many rings.  When this bloomed for the first time, I immediately moved it to a better location.  (It was at the end of the driveway where the deer could eat it.)  This past year I was able to really cross on it and was very pleased by how easy it set pods. Bizarre Love Triangle is a light peach bloom with a dark violet patterned eye zone with concentric rings, blending into a yellow green throat.  It is easily fertile both ways.  Named for a favorite song from the band New Order, which brings back great memories of the 90's.  $175 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  Should be available on the Lily auction in the future.

Bill Wilson (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) ( Blue Breasted Bee Eater (Lambertson) X Secretariat (Lewis)) Tet., Sev., 6" bloom, 32" scape, 3 way branching, 20 buds.

Of all the Secretariat seedlings I have bloomed, Bill Wilson has the best plant habit hands down. What a lovely scape. Great height.  The color combination is excellent and on certain days that bluish eye zone will blow you away.  Bill Wilson is a light purple bloom with a violet to blue violet eye zone with a corresponding edge of violet blue and gold.  Named for the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.  If it wasn't for the 12 step program of A.A., I wouldn't have gotten sober 42 years ago.  Thank God for Bill W. and A.A.  $100 for a SF for Spring 23 shipping.  Email me at PLar4747@aol.com for availability.

Paper Shadows lovely 37 inch scape. (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

Paper Shadows (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Quiet Riot (Salter J.) X Spacecoast Behavior Pattern (Kinnebrew J.)) Tet., Sev, EM, 6" blooms, 37" scape, 4 way branching, 17 buds.

You can see in the picture above the lovely scape that Paper Shadows has. It was planted right along the driveway and drew me in for a closer look every day. The scape almost has one of those S curves to it, which adds to the lovely presentation.  Most light colored appliques are short with terrible plant habit, but not Paper Shadows.  Paper Shadows has a light yellow bloom with a violet patterned eye zone complemented by a light yellow green appliqued throat.  It's easily fertile both ways. $150 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  It will be available on the Lily auction in the coming year.

George Fox (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Prince of Thieves (Moldovan) X Stolen Heart (Pickles)) Tet., Sev, MLa 5.5" bloom, 32" scape, 4 way branching, 25 buds.

I like to name special red daylilies for family members.  The daylily to be named for my Uncle George Fox is very special.  I have been hybridizing a lot with Lee Pickles Stolen Heart over the past 5 years.  Stolen Heart has that incredible red bloom, but the scape is on the short side.  I decided in order to get better plant habit, it needed to be taken into Steve Moldovan's Prince of Thieves. The results were everything I had hoped for.  Excellent plant habit with stellar 4 way branching and 25 buds.  Nice long bloom season. My Uncle George was a wonderful person.  He was really kind to me when I was a kid and told some really funny stories.  He served in the Korean War and was an aerial photographer stationed in Okinawa and then in Washington D.C.  He took some wonderful pictures of me and my sister, Pam when we were younger.  I remember we had a dark room in the basement where I think he developed and enlarged photographs.  George Fox the daylily is easily fertile both ways. $100 for SF for Spring 23 delivery. Walter is my brother in law, married to my sister, Pam. Walter Matia is one of the leading bronze sculptors in the United States. He's won numerous awards and his work can be seen on matia.com.
Walter Matia the daylily is a lovely tall golden yellow flower standing 47 inches tall.  You won't miss this daylily in a crowd!  It has stellar 5 way branching and a long bloom season with it's 25 buds. Fertile both ways.  $100 for a SF.  SOLD OUT.  This daylily will be available on the Lily auction in 2024.

Emma Torer (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023)

Emma Torer (Paul K. Lewis, Spring 2023) (Fringe Theory (Parsons) X Gaskins Seedling A116) Tet. Sev, M, 6" blooms, 29" scapes, 2 way branching, 15 buds.

This lovely peach daylily was suppose to get introduced some years ago, but because of some confusion with it's sibling and which one I wanted to introduce, I finally got it figured out. This introduction is from some seeds I purchased from Rich Howard a number of years ago.  See folks, you never know what you are going to get when you buy some seeds online. The peach color was a standout combined with it's tall scape.  I'm naming this daylily for my niece Emma, who is one of the nicest people I know. Easily fertile both ways. $75 for a SF. SOLD OUT.  Should be available on the Lily auction in the future.

THANK YOU for looking over my daylily introductions. 2022 was one of my most difficult years with juggling my landscaping work and trying to do my daylily hybridizing in the mornings.  IF you enjoy my daylilies, you might enjoy my daylily videos as well.  You can view those on You tube by putting, "Lewis Daylily Garden," in the search box and they should come up.  I like to shoot videos of the garden during peak bloom.  For any other questions, you can email me at PLar4747@aol.com.  Happy gardening.
